Galatians 3

CHAPTER 3 Sons of Abraham are of Belief

1 O unthinking Galatians, who charmed you, [³the ⁴truth ¹to not ²yield to], before whose eyes Jesus Christ was written about beforehand, [²among ³you ¹being crucified]? 2 This only I want to learn from you, was it from works of law [²the ³spirit ¹you received], or by report of belief? 3 [²so ³unthinking ¹Are you]? Commencing in spirit, [²now ⁴in flesh ¹you are ³completed]? 4 [²so many things ¹Did you suffer] in vain, if indeed that it be vain? 5 The one then supplying to you the spirit, and operates power in you -- is it from works of law or is it from report of belief? 6 As how Abraham trusted in God, and it was imputed to him for righteousness. 7 Know then that the ones of belief, these are sons of Abraham. 8 [⁴saw at a distance ¹And ²the ³scripture] that of belief [²justifies ³the ⁴nations ¹God], advancing good news to Abraham, saying that, [⁴shall be blessed ⁵by ⁶you ¹All ²the ³nations]. 9 So that the ones of belief are blessed with the believing Abraham. 10 For as many as [²of ³works ⁴of law ¹are], [²under ³a curse ¹they are]. For it has been written, Accursed be all who do not adhere in all the things having been written in the scroll of the law to do them.

The Just shall Live of Belief

11 But that by law no one is being justified with God is manifest; for it says, The just [²of ³belief ¹shall live]. 12 But the law is not of belief; but the [²observing ³them ¹man] shall live by them. 13 Christ bought us back from the curse of the law, having become [²for ³us ¹a curse]. For it has been written, Accursed is every one hanging upon a tree, 14 that to the nations the blessing of Abraham should take place in Christ Jesus, that the promise of the spirit we should receive through the belief. 15 Brethren, according to man I speak. Even [²of a man ³having been validated ¹a covenant], no one annuls or adds further. 16 And to Abraham [³were spoken ¹the ²promises], and to his seed. [²he does not ³say ¹And], to the seeds, as unto many; but as unto one, saying, And to your seed -- which is Christ. 17 And this I say, the covenant being validated before by God in Christ -- [³after ⁷years ⁴four hundred ⁵and ⁶thirty ²taking place ¹the law] does not void so as to render useless the promise. 18 For if [³is of ⁴law ¹the ²inheritance], no longer is it of promise; but to Abraham through promise God granted it.

The Purpose of the Law

19 Why then the law? [³of the ⁴violations ²for favor ¹It was added], until of which time [³should come ¹the ²seed] to whom it has been promised; it was set in order by messengers in the hand of a mediator. 20 But the mediator [³one ²not ¹is]; but God is one. 21 Then is the law against the promises of God? May it not be. For if [²was given ¹a law] being able to restore life, then really [⁴then ⁵of ⁶law ³was ¹the ²righteousness]. 22 But [³consigned ¹the ²scripture] the whole under sin, that the promise of belief of Jesus Christ should be given to the ones trusting. 23 [²before ¹But ⁵coming ³the ⁴belief], [²by ³law ¹we were guarded], having been consigned to the about to be [²belief ¹uncovering]. 24 So that the law [²our instructor ¹has become] up to Christ, that [²of ³belief ¹we should be justified]. 25 [⁴having come ¹But ²of the ³belief], no longer [²under ³an instructor ¹are we]; 26 [³all ¹for ⁴sons ⁵of God ²you are] through the belief in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many as was immersed [²Christ ¹put on]. 28 There is not Jew nor Greek; there is not bondman nor free; there is not male and female; [⁴all ¹for ²you ⁵one ³are] in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are of Christ, then [²of the ⁴of Abraham ³seed ¹you are], and [²according to ³promise ¹heirs].
